Special Needs

Syracuse University Food Services is committed to meeting students' nutritional needs. We have been very successful at accommodating students' diverse nutritional needs; including Celiac disease. Our staff has been informed and trained on food allergies. We pride ourselves in working one-on-one with students who have food allergies.

If you have any dietary needs due to medical reasons, family medical history and/or food allergies, it is in your best interest to get in touch with Ruth Sullivan before you come to campus so we can discuss how to better accommodate your nutritional requirements. The sooner you get in touch with us, the better. We can schedule a meeting when you arrive.

To help us access your nutritional needs, please fill out the Allergy Form.

Kosher/Halal

Syracuse University Food Services also provides Kosher and Halal meals to students under the current meal plan. If you are interested in these meals, we encourage you to contact the manager at Shaw Dining Center for more information.

SU Meal Plan Policy

All Syracuse University students residing in residence halls are required to be on a Syracuse University Meal Plan, including those with special nutritional needs. Syracuse University employs a clinical nutritionist to accommodate those students with medically prescribed diets. The following list represents some of the medical conditions for which meal plan accommodations have been arranged:

  • Diabetes
  • Kidney Disease
  • Weight reduction*
  • Hypertension
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Elevated cholesterol
  • Elevated triglycerides
  • Food allergies/Intolerances
  • Anemia
  • Duodenal ulcer
  • Colitis

*Please note: enrollment in a commercial weight loss program is not a valid excuse for meal plan exemption. Our nutritionists are available to assist those students requiring weight management.

Syracuse University Food Services is committed to delivering quality food and service to our students. Food Services continually strives to meet the needs of all students, including those with special nutritional requirements.
